Nicole Ratjen is an international theatre artist born and raised on the West Coast of Canada. As an actor, director, playwright, mask maker and teacher, Nicole loves the creative process.
After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University in Toronto specializing in Devised Theatre and Theatrical Design, Nicole furthered her training in Europe. She attended L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris and alongside the cours professional she participated in the Laboratory Study of Movement (LEM).
As an actor and director, Nicole has worked on production throughout Canada, across Europe and around Australia. She continues to develop and create new works for the screen and stage.
With a keen interest on mask performance Nicole traveled to Italy to study under the tutelage of renowned mask sculptor Donato Satori for The Art of the Mask International Workshop at The Center of Mask and Gestural Sculptures. While in Italy, Nicole participated in The Master Class Festival: The Way of the Mask, at the International Mask Museum of Amleto and Donato Satori with Enrico Bonevera, Giorgio Bongiovanni, Dario Fo, Fabio Mongolini and Mummenschanz.
Fostering and growing the artistic community is incredibly important to Nicole. As an instructor she has brought her talents to teaching the techniques of theatre such as Improvisation, Mask, Clown, Devised Theatre and classical text.
Nicole is currently a company member of the mask theatre company TheatreFragile and performs in their production of Wir Treffen uns im Paradies. She plays the lead Rachel in the Youtube: Your Turn, award winning Webseries, Das Apartment. She is one third of the Bloody Bawdy Villains and can been seen performing regularly when in Berlin improvised theatre with Goodluck, Barbara, Its that time of the Month and Comedysportz in Berlin. Nicole spent the majority of 2016 and 2017 on tour performing as the clown in the show SOAP/ WET directed by Markus Pabst & Maximilian Rambaek however most recently she was accepted to the roster as a Clown for Cirque du Soliel.
